Chris.Weekly.org: Fragmented

  • EJC · 9 months ago
I did friendster, myspace and the like for years. Now it's linked in.

Got very tired of duplicating information from site to site to site and threw in the towel.

Now I just use iWeb and it's up to people who are interested to grab the rss feed.

I personally have never seen the usefulness behind twitter (do people really wanna track other people's every breath?).

And if Barbara Walters is talking about how awesome twitter is on the view, it's clearly jumped the shark.

Here's my take and current usage:

    Chris.Weekly.org - "home"
this is the intended long-term aggregator of my stuff

    Facebook - "coffee shop"
socializing, this is where the people are

    Twitter - "postcards"
convenient for status, shows up in FB and here

    LinkedIn - "rolodex"
    strictly business

I don't duplicate much, but do want to integrate twitter posts more robustly w/ my regular posts here (actually writing them to the wordpress database rather than just rendering recent ones w/ the javascript api).

As far as twitter "usefulness", it's useful for me in much the same way having a blog is useful. I write less than once a day so not quite every breath. Some people go nuts w/ it but a lot of users will unfollow someone who posts too much. I like keeping tabs on what folks are up to [shrug] and I like the openness (Twitter => FriendFeed => FB => WP...) Ultimately a real syndication framework is still missing, and Twitter and RSS are what we've got, for now. /$0.02
